Due to staff shortages and health and safety measures put in place during lockdowns, in many countries, the efficiency and frequency of waste collection services have been compromised. Some special services were even shut down completely, such as reuse and on-demand waste services for the collection of bulky items.
Now that the world is getting back to business, with companies re-opening their doors and people in some sectors going back to work, waste management practices will need to be re-assessed.
In order to continue to prevent the spread of coronavirus, new legislation has been put in place.
